AboutMeSanJuan
How did I end up here and where have I been?

My love for horses extends as far back as I can remember!  I began riding lessons when I was eight years old, and have continued to enjoy horses ever since.  I am a nationally and internationally certified Equine Massage Practitioner.  I am a proud Northwest School of Animal Massage graduate, and have completed the Level 100 certification for Maintenance Massage, Level 200 certification for Performance/Sports Massage, and Level 300 certification for Rehabilitation Massage (currently the highest level offered at the school).  I have completed over 300 hundred hours of formal training specifically in equine behavior, handling, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, pre-event and post-event massage, first aid, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, circulatory massage, intuitive healing, trigger point therapy, stress point therapy, stretching, and other adjunctive therapies.  My continuing education will include certifications in equine reiki, acupressure and aromatherapy.  I have been a working Equine Massage Practitioner for over 3 years now and have given talks, clinics, seminars and workshops on the subject.

I often work through vet referral, and therefore become an integral part of a team that works to address and improve the horse’s health, well-being, and recovery.  I was one of the first members of the former AMAO (Animal Massage Association of Oregon) and IAAMB(International Association of Animal Massage and Bodywork).   I also volunteer at rehabilitation centers, focusing on horses that have unfortunately been abused or through some sort of trauma.  My devotion to horses is as strong as my devotion to myself, as I believe I have as much to give them as they do to me.  I love them unconditionally and delight in working with those who share my commitment to their well-being and extraordinary spirit.

In addition to my work with horses, I also have a science degree in Anthropology from Portland State University and have spent the last 10 years working in locations such as Ghana, Mexico, and Turkey.  I enjoy reading non-fiction, writing, yoga, music, dance, and spending time with my family who has supported me in every journey, however ‘unique’, that I have embarked upon thus far.  Without their teachings my path would be limited, my life less meaningful, and my work with horses less effective.  Their love is with me every time I touch a horse with healing intent, and so I extend this profound gift to you and your equine companion…
