About Jessamyn Grace
My love for horses extends as far back as I can remember! I began riding lessons when I was eight years old and have continued to celebrate horses ever since. I am a nationally and internationally certified Equine Massage Practitioner and proud Northwest School of Animal Massage * graduate. I have completed the Level 100
certification for Maintenance Massage, Level 200 certification for Performance/Sports Massage, and Level 300 certification for Rehabilitation Massage. I have completed over 500 hundred hours of formal training specifically in equine behavior, handling, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, pre-event and post-event massage, first aid, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, circulatory massage, intuitive healing, trigger point therapy, stress point therapy, stretching, nutrition, saddle fitting, gait analysis, foal imprinting and other adjunctive therapies. My continuing education includes certifications in equine Reiki, equine first aid, animal communication and 5 day full body equine dissection courses with Dr. Deb Bennett, Ph.D. I have been a working Equine Massage Practitioner for over 12 years now and have given talks, clinics, seminars and workshops on the subject across the United States as well as in parts of Western Europe.
I often work through vet referral and therefore become an integral part of a team that works to address and improve the horse’s health, well-being, and recovery. I am an IAAMB (International Association of Animal Massage and Bodywork) member as well as an NBCAAM (National Board of Certification for Animal Acupressure & Massage) member, originally on a small student team formed to beta the exam for national certification in animal massage. I also volunteer at rehabilitation centers, focusing on horses that have unfortunately been abused or through some sort of trauma. My devotion to horses is as strong as my devotion to myself, as they continue to be my greatest teachers. I love them unconditionally and delight in working with those who share my commitment to their well-being and extraordinary spirit.
In addition to my work with horses, I have a science degree in Anthropology from Portland State University and have spent several years working in locations such as Ghana, Mexico, and Turkey. I have been a student of Zhenzan Dao of the MogaDao Institute since 2005, a teacher who understands the message of horses more innately and intimately than anyone I know. As the director of the Astoria Arts and Movement Center I also teach teach Egyptian Cabaret Belly Dance, have a community radio show on KMUN called Day of the Velvet Voice, am currently studying the art of black and white film photography under Dwight Caswell, and have read the Tarot since I was a teenager. I enjoy writing, poetry, traveling,,reading non-fiction, meditation, dance, and spending time with my family who has supported me in every journey, however ‘unique’, that I have embarked upon thus far. Without their teachings my path would be limited, my life less meaningful, and my work with horses less effective. Their love is with me every time I touch a horse with healing intent, and so I extend this profound gift to you and your equine companion…
